The Global Race to 6G – China and India Leading the Way

The future of wireless communication is fast approaching, and 6G technology is emerging as the next frontier. Countries worldwide are investing in research and development to secure a leadership position in this transformative field.

China has taken a major step forward by building the “world’s first” 6G field test network. Engineers from Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications have established a system capable of achieving 6G transmission on existing 4G infrastructure. This experimental network uses semantic communication technology to deliver a tenfold improvement in key metrics like capacity, coverage, and efficiency. China Mobile has also unveiled an advanced 6G baseband prototype system designed for the Sub7GHz frequency band, highlighting the integration of sensory, computing, and communication technologies that are setting the stage for future advancements.

Meanwhile, India is also rapidly making progress in 6G technology, now ranking among the top countries for 6G patent filings. Under the Bharat 6G Vision, the government is evaluating hundreds of proposals to accelerate research and has funded two advanced testbeds to further develop 6G capabilities.
